Continuing SAF’s activities and workshops during Sharjah International Book Fair, this weekend we hosted the Book Making Workshop with Tom Baggaley and Geometric Pattern Making with Fatima Zahra Hassan, both of whom are artists and lecturers from the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah.
The Book Making Workshop with Tom Baggaley taught the children who joined how to create their own handmade books using leather, paper and different needles and sewing techniques. The participants from ages 8 to 15 years and from different nationalities were very excited to be given the chance to make their own books, which they could take home to draw, paint or write in. The workshop lasted an hour and a half, which gave the children lots of time to interact with one another and to create their own handmade books.
The Geometric Pattern Making with Fatima Zahra Hassan taught the participants how to make their own geometric patterns. Fatima Zahra Hassan started the workshop by distributing papers with geometric grids drawn on them. The children had to use the grid as a guide to help make their own patterns by colouring and filling in the forms using coloured pencils, crayons and markers. Once they were done creating the forms and shapes they wanted they cut them out and stuck them onto a new blank sheet of paper to compose their very own geometric pattern.
