The winners of the fourth instalment of the Abraaj Capital Art Prize (ACAP) were announced yesterday. The recipients include Wael Shawky – who is currently part of Sharjah Art Foundation’s Witness Programme – Taysir Batniji, Raed Yassin, and the collaborating duo Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, each of whom have exhibited as part of the Sharjah Biennial, and Risham Syed.

ACAP is the only prize specific to the Middle East, North Africa and the South Asia region. It awards detailed proposals rather than finished outcomes. The winning artists receive funding of $120,000 to work on their proposals and six months to create the final work, which will be showcased at Art Dubai in March 2012. The works will then become part of Abraaj Capital’s permanent collection.
