Artworks such as <em>Where Are the Arabs?</em> can be seen as pieces of a complex, web-like blueprint to the revolutions - a labyrinthine oral history of built-up sentiments and sensibilities, disenchantments and frustrations, key events and seminal figures, that coalesced to enable the turbulent circumstances that have been chaotically unfolding since January of 2011.

On Friday October 12 in London, acclaimed Lebanese sound artist Tarek Atoui will transport audiences through a lost world of Arabic culture with his trance-inducing La Suite, a five-hour performance piece inspired by classical Arab music.

Hala Elkoussy’s work explores the intimate and neglected aspects of communal living, shedding light on the underlying dynamics at play within the complex urban structure that is Cairo.

Last week, London-based artist Derek Ogbourne’s curious and captivating art installation – the <em>Museum of Optography, the Purple Chamber</em> – opened in Sharjah. It is the latest iteration of the artist’s ongoing project, which was born in 2007 out of an obsession with the possibility of imprinting the last image witnessed before death on the canvas of the retina. The touring exhibition consists of drawings, paintings, photography, time-based media and objects.

Documenta 13, which opened on June 9th in Kassel, Germany and runs until the 16th of September, features the work of a number of artists who have upcoming projects with the Sharjah Art Foundation, or have collaborated with SAF in the past.

Sharjah Art Foundation 2011 Production Programme commissions by Bani Abidi and CAMP were premiered at Documenta (13) which opened on June 9 in Kassel, Germany.

What can the hearing-impaired teach us about sound? How can they help expose us to the layered sensorial experiences it can provoke and the ways in which it can be used to communicate not merely to the ear canal, but to the entire body – to its organs and extremities, hair follicles and optic nerves? These are some of the complex questions raised by Lebanese sound artist Tarek Atoui’s workshop with hearing-impaired students from the Al-Amal School for the Deaf in Sharjah.

Make Your Mark was a one-day event; which ran from 10:30 am to 8 pm and offered everyone a chance to make art revolving around SAF’s current exhibitions.
