Apichatpong Weerasethakul


Biography

Apichatpong Weerasethakul is an independent film director, screenwriter and film producer. In his films, he experiments with elements of plot structure related to Thai popular media, comics and old films. Finding inspiration in small Thai towns, he often uses non-professional actors and improvised dialogue to explore the boundaries of documentary and fiction. His feature films include Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, winner of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or, Tropical Malady, which won a jury prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, Blissfully Yours, Prix un Certain Regard, Cannes (2002) and Mysterious Object at Noon (2001).
