Project Description
A Typology of Houses is a descriptive record of culture made manifest in the building
vernacular of residential housing in Dubai. Al-Ani looked to achieve maximum
objectivity in her photographs, eliminating as much extraneous information as
possible. According to the artist: "When I classified the photographs into categories
that highlight architectural styles(gothic, oriental, traditional) I began to recognise
patterns that map the city and its people."
