Project Description
The Book of Profanation, exhibited here for the first time as an experimental
prototype, is a compendium of recent projects by Decolonizing Architecture
Art Residency (DAAR), whose practice is centred around the future archeology
of Israel’s occupation: how might evacuated colonies and military bases be reinhabited?
Historically, in the process of decolonisation, the buildings and
infrastructure of the colonial past continue to fulfill the function for which they were
designed, thereby reproducing some of the former hierarchies into the postcolonial
present. Rather than simply destroying or reusing these structures of power, DAAR’s
architectural interventions aim to reorient the logic and politics of spaces built by
the occupation.
