Workshop: Silent Books
With UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY)
Ages: 15+
Accessible to participants with hearing impairment, Down syndrome and physical disabilities.

Launched in Italy (2013), Sweden (2015) and the UAE (2017), Silent Books is a project to produce stories that rely on images rather than text. The main mission of the project is to create and share wordless books that tell a story, express emotion and encourage readers to have their own interpretations and imaginative journeys. In this workshop, participants will create their own silent books using mainly collage, illustration and a lot of imagination. The finished books will be contributed to Sharjah Art Foundation’s Ramadan charity campaign to help expand children’s libraries.

Workshop: Icing Biscuits with Ramadan Designs
Ages: 16+
Accessible to participants with hearing impairment, Down syndrome, autism and physical disabilities.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to use icing to create Ramadan designs on biscuits. They will discover the ingredients necessary for making icing with the correct working consistency and develop some useful decorating skills.

Workshop: Mixed Media Open Studio
Ages: 16+
Accessible to participants with hearing impairment, Down syndrome and physical disabilities.

Under the supervision and guidance of a teaching artist, participants in this workshop will share their skills and ideas for mixed media art with other members of the group as they create new works inspired by Ramadan themes.

Storytelling Performance: Listen to the Hakawati [Traditional Arabic Storyteller]
11:00 pm–12:00 am
All ages
Accessible to all
Language: Arabic

Toward the end of the Ramadan Night celebrations, all participants will be invited to listen to a hakawati [traditional Arabic storyteller], who will tell a folkloric story in an entertaining and interactive way. Before the advent of television, the hakawati used to provide the whole community with their evening entertainment, delighting listeners with stories of heroism or romance that included important life lessons.
