Workshop Description
Inspired by a typical SAF office breakfast order, and Fikra Design's research and exhibition Afaaq Al Mustaqbal, this workshop will focus on the experience of the cafeteria by analyzing sensory cues from the sampling of food and drinks to questioning tropes and understanding the reasoning behind naming trends.
The Fikra team will first present their research on the Emirati Cafeteria, and then take participants on a walk through #SAFneighbourhood to explore the different layers of the cafeteria. Participants will be looking at menus of the numerous cafeterias, taste different snacks, and discover reasons behind naming trends such as the "7asoon Mattar" sandwich, "3war Galb" smoothie, and others.
Participants will be required to bring a camera (a phone camera is good enough) to document the walk, and finally translate their experiences and findings into a collaged poster, creating a collective portrait of the Emirati cafeteria that will then be added onto a website.
