Overview

Beginning with March Meeting 2014 and continuing through March Meeting 2015 ( 11–15 May 2015), Sharjah Biennial 12: The past, the present, the possible (SB12) invites over fifty artists and cultural practitioners from over twenty-five countries to introduce their ideas of the possible through their art and work. The exhibition takes place in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, crossing the emirate to sites in and around the city as well as in the city of Kalba on the Gulf of Oman. Over two-thirds of participating artists will present new works and commissions.

Programming for SB12 includes monthly lectures and workshops in various locations around Sharjah from September 2014 to February 2015. All presentations will take place at Sharjah Art Foundation unless otherwise noted. Please check sharjahart.org for exact dates and times.

Eungie Joo

Eungie Joo was Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs at the New Museum from 2007-2012, where she spearheaded the Museum as Hub program and was curator of the 2012 New Museum Triennial: The Ungovernables. She was founding Director and Curator of the Gallery at REDCAT, Los Angeles, and served as commissioner of the Korean Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, with Condensation: Haegue Yang. Joo received her doctorate in Ethnic Studies at the University of California at Berkeley.
