Sharjah Art Foundation, 2018

Overview

Opening date: 20 January 2018
Closing date: 28 February 2018

Sharjah Art Foundation invites emerging filmmakers to apply for the Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) short film production grant. Applicants should submit a grant application and a three-minute video that presents an overview of the genre, themes, structure, plot, setting and characters for their original short film. A total of $30,000 will be awarded, and films selected by the jury should be completed in time for the SFP programme in January 2019.

A new annual film initiative organised by Sharjah Art Foundation, the Sharjah Film Platform supports the burgeoning art scene in the UAE and surrounding region by providing a critical platform for emerging and established filmmakers, producers, critics and students. SFP will include a curated film and awards programme and a public programme of talks, workshops and discussions as well as the short film production grant. SFP screenings will be presented at Mirage City Cinema, Al Mureijah Square in the heritage area of Sharjah and in various locations across the emirate, including venues in Sharjah’s central and eastern regions.

To apply, please complete the application form here, upload your three-minute video to either Vimeo or YouTube and include the link for your video in the appropriate space on the application form. For the purpose of this award, a short film is defined as an original film with a running time of 50 minutes or less, including all credits.

The artistic approach, format and content for the three-minute video are open. Applicants will be assessed on the creativity and technical skill they demonstrate in their video.

The application deadline is 28 February 2018. The recipients of the SFP short film production grants will be announced on 30 March 2018. Completed films will be screened at the SFP film programme in January 2019.
