Biography

Solo exhibitions of his work include Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan (2014); SiTE: LAB, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA (2013); Hong-Gah Museum, Taipei, Taiwan (2011) and Indianapolis Museum of Art, USA (2005). His work has been shown in group exhibitions, film and media festivals including Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Tokyo, Japan (2014); Media City Seoul, Seoul Museum of Art, Korea (2014); International Video Art Festival and Photo Exhibition, Scoletta di San Giovanni Battista e del SS Sacramento, Venice (2012); Contemporary Art Center New Orleans, USA (2012); Museum at Campbell River, Campbell River, Canada (2011); Taiwan Biennial, National Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung (2010); Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Georgia, USA (2005) and Gothenburg New Media Art Festival, Sweden (2005).

Jawshing Arthur Liou is the recipient of Asian Cultural Council Grant, New York (2013); Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship, USA (2010) and Garry B. Fritz Award from the Society for Photographic Education National Conference, Chicago (2006).

Liou was born in 1968 in Zhongli, Taiwan. He completed a BA in Journalism at National Cheng-Chi University in Taipei, Taiwan in 1990, and worked as a video journalist in Taiwan in the early 1990s before immigrating to the United States at age 25. He received an MFA in Photography and Electronic Intermedia from the University of Florida, USA in 1998. Liou is currently the Professor of Digital Art and Chair of the Department of Studio Art at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA.
