Photography Gallery Programme Manager

Reporting to: Director of Learning and Research

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To lead and manage a dynamic learning programme at Sharjah Photography Gallery. This includes cultivating regional and international collaborations, designing compelling educational content, and advancing experimental and emerging practices.
  • To propose initiatives targeting photography communities, both locally and regionally, in ways that encourage cross-region and cross-discipline collaborations.
  • To create content, including content planning and systems, to highlight and present SAF’s ongoing learning initiatives (e.g. workshops and courses) in a unique and compelling way.
  • To conduct knowledge and interest exchange sessions and programs, including artists’ gatherings, photo walks, talks, photography club (both analog and digital), to position SAF at the heart of the regional photography community.
  • To conduct educational exchange sessions and programs with other institutions locally and internationally, including residencies and fellowships.
  • To place a special focus on emerging and experimental artistic and cultural mediums and activities such as zines, independent publishing and printing, experimental photography and printing. 
  • Develop learning tools and resources related to the Gallery’s core and seasonal programme.
  • Advise on the setup and maintenance of photography facilities, equipment, and usage guidelines.
  • Help draft operational forms and regulations to ensure smooth use of facilities.
  • Prepare proposals and materials for submission to granting agencies, partners and sponsors.
  • Provide content for communications outlets, published material and SAF website to create awareness on learning programmes. 
  • Train a team of coordinators and facility managers to run the Gallery spaces and use machines effectively. 
  • Develop presentations and represent SAF in public, educational and institutional programmes and events.
  • Prepare budgets, progress and final reports, in addition to programme evaluation and recommendations. 
  • Liaise and work with the publications team to develop necessary publications relating to the community programme.
  • Coordinate and liaise with all departments at SAF to ensure programme is in line with general SAF programming.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Photography or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience;
    or a Bachelor’s degree in the same fields, with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing learning, cultural programmes, or photography-focused initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate strategic relationships and collaborations with artists, educators, and professionals in the creative industries, both regionally and internationally.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Arabic and English is preferred.

Conditions of Work

The role is a full-time position based in Sharjah, with working hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Thursday, and occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
