In this Reading Circle, explore connections between the works of artist Bouchra Khalili and philosopher Edouard Glissant. You will discuss ‘For Opacity’, a chapter on minority cultural rights in Glissant’s book Poetics of Relations (1990), which inspired Khalili’s work Foreign Office (2015). You will also examine Khalili’s own writings on The Movement for Arab Workers and the Assifa Theatre Company, which are highlighted in her mixed-media installation The Circle (2023).
This session is the second Reading Circle organised in parallel with the exhibition Bouchra Khalili: Between Circles and Constellations. Reading Circles engage participants in in-depth discussions about particular works and the historical, sociopolitical and philosophical contexts in which they were produced.
Conducted in English, the session is free. The texts by Glissant and Khalili will be emailed to you prior to the Reading Circle discussion.
The Foundation is committed to making its programmes inclusive and accessible. You will find disability access symbols indicating accessibility for all sessions on the registration form. Kindly contact us in advance to arrange for any support needed.
