Taking inspiration from the work of Jorge Tacla, engage with screenprinting to capture the fragility of cities and their fractured landscapes.
Bearing in mind the tension between presence and absence in Tacla’s paintings, develop preliminary drawings of places and events that hold personal significance for you. Explore the idea of using architecture, ruins and open spaces as elements that carry layered narratives, and translate them into simplified designs through reduction and strong colour contrasts.
Then learn the fundamentals of preparing and stretching a screen onto a wooden frame, selecting suitable blocking materials and transferring your image to the screen. As you print, refine the relationship between positive and negative space while carefully separating and layering colours so that each impression builds upon the last, echoing the accumulated layers of collective memory embedded in the fabric of a city.
The fee is 200 AED, and all materials are provided.
