Shambhavi Kaul

Whether working with found footage or her own images, Shambhavi Kaul explores the cinematic construction of place, and inevitably, that of human identity. Her work conjures uncanny, science-fictive non-places. Kaul’s work has been shown at the Toronto International Film Festival; Berlinale; New York Film Festival; London Film Festival; International Film Festival Rotterdam; Edinburgh International Film Festival; Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Germany; Ann Arbor Film Festival, US; and Experimenta Bangalore. Her work has also been exhibited at the Shanghai Biennale; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; and Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai. Kaul is Associate Professor of the Practice in Art History & Visual Studies, Duke University, Durham, US. Born in 1973 in Jodhpur, India, she lives and works in Durham.
