Although some items were rescued from the museum during the wars, the National Museum of Beirut lacked an inventory of its collection before the conflict, making it nearly impossible to assess what was rescued and what was lost. All the Objects from the National Museum of Beirutcaptures only the captions of the artifacts on display as of December 15, 2012, reducing the museum’s holdings to a single, ironic image—where absence speaks as loudly as presence.
