A playful convergence of light, space and movement, Thilo Frank’s installations and sculptures poetically reinterpret everyday phenomena. Commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation for Sharjah Biennial 11, Infinite Rock (2013) takes the form of an irregular polyhedral rock shrouded with black fabric. Installed outdoors, the sculpture absorbs all light, creating a visual current to draw in the visitors—one at a time through a dark and cavernous void leading to a door. On the other side lies a solitary swing in the middle of a glowing space lined with mirrors from floor to ceiling. Surrounded with countless reflections, as the visitor begins to swing, disorientation is at full effect: walls, the ceiling and the floor disappear in a centrifugal motion that seems to propel the body in and out of the infinite space.
