Obligatory Silence

After moving to Paris in the early 1970s, Adam Henein expanded his practice to include painting on ancient Egyptian papyrus, a porous and delicate paper. When studied through the lens of the current time, his artworks present amorphous abstractions seemingly akin to an act of resistance within the Egyptian modernist art community at the time. Henein worked against the grain, avoiding the figurative tendencies that were dominant in his home country.
