Kamala Ibrahim Ishag, a revolutionary Sudanese artist, was part of the Khartoum school before co-founding the Crystalist group in the 1970s; a conceptual art movement that challenged the prevailing notions of Sudanese tradition established by previous art practices. Ishag's paintings adopt the Crystalist group's unique artistic language— deliberately depicting distorted women's faces in crystalline geometric shapes, reflecting their entrapment within their own destiny.
