2023
Mixed-media installation
Dimensions variable
Dana Awartani’s art explores the intersection of traditional Islamic architectural forms and motifs, offering consideration to their intricate design and histories. When the dust of conflict settles (2023) is an intergenerational revival of the craft of historical Syrian stone masonry. The works feature an archive of recreated decorative stone carvings extracted from Syrian monuments destroyed during recent conflict, along with a series of studies on paper exploring various patterns of carved design.
