Amal Kenawy evolved an expansive practice concerned with personal history, memory and the performative power of artistic representation. Works by the late multimedia artist display the use of her own physical and psychological portraits as a conduit to explore questions of power, violence and suppression. You Will Be Killed (2006), an animated video work, brings together her drawings and imagery, including a recurring trapped female character performed by the artist.
