Artworks from different phases of his life present the conceptual development of artist Arnulf Rainer’s ideas. A steady oscillation between his contemplative artworks and his spontaneous and highly charged artworks is visible throughout the span of his professional life. This exhibition features a large selection of artworks, with a special focus on the overpaintings section of his oeuvre, in which he paints over objects such as books, photographs, tribal masks and other objects from popular culture.
