Smita Sharma is a photojournalist and visual storyteller whose work centres the traumatised and forgotten voices of those subjected to human rights abuses, especially victims of sex crimes and human trafficking in the Global South. Amplifying the untold stories of young women manipulated and coerced by systems of patriarchy and gendered violence, she aims to elevate the critical consciousness of law enforcement and the general public regarding these issues. Her documentary work has brought greater awareness to the prevalence of sex trafficking across India and Bangladesh, child marriage in Nepal and the impact of pregnancy on girls’ education in Kenya.
