Initially formed in Port-au-Prince in 2017, The Living and the Dead Ensemble comprises 10 artists, performers and poets from Haiti, France and the United Kingdom. Reinterpreting the richness of Haitian cultural production in the context of the country’s political turbulence, their performances, films and installations present a transnational imaginary from a uniquely Caribbean perspective. Although the group’s members hail from different disciplinary backgrounds, they come together around a shared fundamental goal: to create narratives that interweave Haiti’s present with its mythical, colourful and often forgotten histories.
