A COSMIC VOYAGE (1936)
DIRECTOR: VASILIJ ZURAVLËV
USSR (NOW RUSSIA)
FICTION | 70 MINUTES
SILENT WITH ARABIC AND ENGLISH SUBTITLES
The last Soviet silent feature, A Cosmic Voyage was produced at a time when talkies had become a firmly established practice. This ambitious 1936 film employs elaborate special effects to envision Moscow in 1946, through the lens of Stalin-era futurism. The film's highlight is a remarkably convincing lunar expedition depicting a spaceship's journey to the moon.
