Become a Film Critic

With Bentley Brown
Ages 17+
In English

Ever wondered what it means to become a film critic? Find out how the act of watching a film can transform from passive viewing into a practice of reflection — a way of seeing beyond the screen.

This course opens a space to explore the delicate relationship between image and thought — how cinema reshapes our awareness, poses questions to the world around us, and invites us to look and observe.

Through immersive theory sessions and guided discussions, you will trace the echo of images in memory, learn to read films as one reads texts, and express your impressions through a language of critique that reveals your own vision.

Participants will also watch a curated selection of films from Sharjah Film Platform 8, applying analytical tools and critical writing methods to craft a review that reflects their unique encounter with cinema.

The course is free of charge. Notebooks and pens will be provided to all participants.

The Foundation is committed to making its programmes inclusive and accessible. Kindly contact us in advance to arrange for any support needed.
