Collection Care 101: Behind the Scenes

With John Labib and Zeljana Runjic (Sharjah Art Foundation Collection Team)

Ages 17+

In English

In this workshop, go behind the scenes at the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection to explore essential collection care and handling strategies. Learn how artworks are safely stored, packed, moved and archived, and find out why environmental conditions, material sensitivity and structural stability must be taken into account. The discussion will also address ethical restoration techniques and responsibilities involved in both private and institutional collections.

Designed for artists, collectors and cultural practitioners alike, this workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to the professional methods supporting the long-term preservation of artworks and outlines key distinctions between the three levels of art handling: preservation, conservation and restoration.

This session is free, and all materials are provided.
