How can engraved motifs and markings on a rounded surface be employed as an inventive visual language? Find out by creating cylinder seals for linocut printing.
First, collaborate with other participants in designing and carving print units inspired by the forms and symbols of ancient civilisations. Then, working on your own, transform one unit of the design into an individual rolling cylinder seal capable of continuous movement.
Produce a personal print with your own cylinder seal before coming together with other participants to produce a group composition that encourages artistic exchange and the construction of shared visual rhythms.
This workshop will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the principles of repetition, displacement and layering. You will also reinterpret historical tools and symbols within contemporary frameworks.
The fee is 100 AED, and all materials are provided.
Sharjah Art Foundation is committed to making its programmes inclusive and accessible. You can arrange for any support needed through the registration form.
