Delve into a sonic archive, collected through an open call, to investigate the cultural and historical significance of cassette tape correspondence (1970–2000) between residents in the Gulf and their families in other countries. As you examine the dynamic history of cassette tape culture, you will respond both individually and collectively to the content and format of the cassette tapes and reflect on the protocols, systems and categories of archival practices. Through listening, writing and sketching exercises, you will engage with these tapes as both cultural artefacts and historical records of migration, cross-generational memory and long-distance communication.
Sharjah Art Foundation is committed to making its programmes inclusive and accessible. You will find disability access symbols indicating accessibility for all sessions on the registration form. Kindly contact us in advance to arrange for any support needed.
