Following in the footsteps of Alejandra Icaza, gather visual motifs inspired by the natural world, and distil them into symbolic patterns and forms.
Arrange, cut and layer elements to construct a collage base. Then develop this surface into a collagraph printing plate by incorporating additional materials that will produce diverse effects. Approach the plate as a site of experimentation, where the material plays as important a role as the design in shaping the final print.
Explore inking as a second stage in the creative process, experimenting with layering colours and varying ink densities to emphasise the relationships between positive and negative space on the printing plate. Through these processes, build richly textured compositions in which the boundaries between figure and background begin to dissolve.
The fee is 200 AED, and all materials are provided.
