Ages 16+
In English

Step into the practice of Nidanin through this guided session exploring material, process and form. In their studio nestled within SAFneighbourhood, the two artists offer you a close look at how they combine hand-carved hardwood, coral skeletons and resin to create functional sculptural pieces. Gain insight into their work, from collecting and selecting fragments of natural materials to composing forms that echo coastal formations and layered histories. Reflect with them on the cultural and environmental context of their work, considering the legacy of coral wall construction in the UAE and the relationship between preservation and contemporary practice.

About the instructor
Nidanin is a self-taught husband-and-wife duo dedicated to creating functional sculpture and furniture from hardwood, coral and resin. By focusing on the UAE’s coral wall construction as a cultural case study, they position their art as a ‘bridge’ between ancestral wisdom and future sustainability. They aim to raise awareness for coral ecosystems while providing a fresh perspective on visual heritage. Through their studio practice at Bait Obaid Al Shamsi, they invite a deeper reflection on the relationship between environmental preservation and contemporary craftsmanship.
