Rotation and Control

Expect the unexpected when you experiment with different speeds on the pottery wheel. What new shapes and proportions can emerge?

Prepare the clay, and centre it on the pottery wheel, establishing a stable foundation for the form. From there, open the clay, and define its base before gradually pulling up the walls to control height and thickness. Focus on balancing pressure between your hands and guiding the movement to maintain the form as it rotates.

Experiment with changes in wheel speed, and allow for different transformations to occur. Respond by reshaping the form, refining its rim and adjusting its proportions. Restore balance without erasing the traces of movement that emerged during the process.

Complete your work through trimming, drying and firing, and think about the interplay between control and unpredictability during the process.

The fee is 200 AED, and all materials are provided.
