The Image after Dark: Light, Perception and Collective Looking

Ages 17+

In English and Arabic

How can light affect interpretations of photographs? What is the role of collective looking and conversation?

Come together for an informal discussion about the effect of lighting on perceptions of photographs. Share images showing different colour and lighting effects—black and white photographs, shots taken in the dark or low light—and exchange views on meaning and narrative. What could be the significance of memory, absence and ideas that are suggested yet never fully revealed? To conclude the session, you will view a selection of images together and brainstorm on how sequencing, omission and silence can subtly reshape photographic narratives.

Designed for photographers, artists and creatives at all levels, this session is free, and materials are provided. Bring any photographs you would like to talk about during the meetup.

Sharjah Art Foundation is committed to making its programmes inclusive and accessible. You can arrange for any support needed through the registration form.
