How do the conceptual and visual languages of the art poster and the painted canvas converge and diverge? Delve into these two creative approaches through analytical discussion and hands-on activities.
First, investigate the development of the poster and the painting as two distinct yet interconnected forms of visual expression and communication. Examine their characteristics in terms of subject, function, message and conceptual formulation while tracing the paths of overlap and mutual influence. Study the work of artists who have moved fluidly between both fields, such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Shepard Fairey and Laurent Durieux, to understand the diversity of approaches and the evolution of context.
In the second part of the course, sketch and design compositions and typographic elements. Transfer them onto the surface of a screen, separate colours and print with precision.
The fee is 300 AED, and all materials are provided.
