Overview

Featuring more than 50 films from around the world, Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) returns for its fourth edition from 19 to 27 November 2021. This annual programme supports film production and distribution in the United Arab Emirates and beyond through film screenings, the Short Film Production Grant and the Industry Hub and provides a critical platform for both established and aspiring filmmakers.

In parallel with the film screenings, Sharjah Film Platform will present a public programme of talks, masterclasses and workshops on both conceptual and practical topics, offering opportunities to examine pertinent and pressing issues within the film industry and contemporary film and moving image practice. Featuring Emirati filmmakers and practitioners along with regional and international speakers, sessions will touch on a number of themes, including perspectives on observational documentary filmmaking, the art of the film score, representation in Arab film and moving image, women in contemporary Turkish cinema, marginalised voices in film and archives as repository and resource. The latest debates about diversity and inclusivity in the film industry will be addressed as well. A programme of workshops for children and families aims to teach children about the various aspects of filmmaking, such as screenwriting, storyboarding, lighting, filming and production.

This year’s talk programme will be held in a hybrid format with online and on-site sessions at Sharjah Film Platform. For more information regarding the talks programme, please refer to the sections below.
