Overview

Featuring more than 30 films from around the world, Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) returns for its fifth edition from 21 to 30 October 2022. This annual programme supports film production and distribution in the United Arab Emirates and beyond through film screenings, the Short Film Production Grant and the Industry Hub and provides a critical platform for both established and aspiring filmmakers.

In parallel with the film screenings, Sharjah Film Platform will present a public programme of talks, masterclasses and case studies on both conceptual and practical topics, offering opportunities to examine pertinent and pressing issues within the film industry and contemporary film and moving image practice.

This year’s programme is titled Alt Lens: Hi(stories) and Voices from the Borderline and is held in partnership with with the U.S. Mission to the UAE and and the Division of Arts and Humanities at NYU Abu Dhabi, as part of American Film Week. Featuring mixed-heritage and minority American filmmakers, sessions will touch on a number of themes, including identity, migration, diaspora, race and social justice, as well as more practical sessions related to challenges and opportunities in the film industry, documentary film producing and support for underrepresented filmmaking talent.
