Ahmed Yaqoub AlMaazmi

Ahmed Yaqoub AlMaazmi is Assistant Professor of History at United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain. His research examines the intersections of empire, science, slavery, law and material culture across the Arabian Peninsula and the wider Indian Ocean world. In 2025, he received a PhD in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University. His dissertation, ‘An Enchanted Sea: Occultism, Empire, and Society in the Western Indian Ocean, 1450–1750’, received the Gwenn Okruhlik Dissertation Award from the Association for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies. AlMaazmi is engaged in public history initiatives and is the founder and host of the Indian Ocean World Podcast on the New Books Network. He has translated several monographs into Arabic and regularly contributes to public talks and lectures in the UAE and internationally.
