An artist, curator and researcher based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Bermet Borubaeva uses artistic and research-based methodologies to address environmental justice, labour, food systems and urban ecology. She is a co-founder of the Bishkek School of Contemporary Art, an independent platform for critical art, research and education in Central Asia. Borubaeva has participated in and curated exhibitions, including #BishkekSmog, Bishkek (2020); Feminnale, Bishkek (2019); Estimated Waiting Time, Vadim Sidur Museum, Moscow (2019); and Still Life, Kunstraum Dreiviertel, Bern (2019). She is the initiator and long-term co-curator of the TRASH Environmental Art Festival (2009–present). She has published essays on art, ecology and political economy and presented research in academic and public contexts.
