Gary Zhexi Zhang

Gary Zhexi Zhang has worked as a Lecturer in Critical Studies at Goldsmiths MFA, a PhD external examiner at RCA and Adjunct Lecturer at Parsons School of Design in New York, where he also co-founded design studio Foreign Objects. His work has been supported through residencies and fellowships, including La Becque, Vevey; Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai; and EPFL, Lausanne. His writings on art, technology and political economy have appeared in publications such as Frieze, ArtReview, Journal of Cultural Economy and MIT Journal of Design and Science. His recent publications include contributions to Against Reduction (MIT Press, 2021), Platforms: Around, In Between and Through (Singapore Biennale, 2023) and Future Art Ecosystems III & IV (Serpentine, 2022 and 2024). In 2025, he authored a report on art and technology in China for the British Council.
