Skip Door: Kitchen embodies the transformation of an ordinary wooden door into a playful and improvised assemblage, where brightly coloured ribbons, strings and cords stretch across an open window frame like a handmade net. Evoking the resourcefulness and creativity of domestic labour, the work gestures to practices of mending, adapting and inventiveness within kitchen spaces. The lines between ornamentation and functionality are intentionally blurred. The door becomes both a fragile barrier and a decorative surface, reflecting a joyful, almost celebratory approach to repair. In contrast to the heavier materiality of Skip Door: Utility Room, this piece feels lighter and more whimsical, while extending the artist’s exploration of thresholds, care and the overlooked gestures of labour within feminised or domestic environments.
